" regular maintenance (including, as necessary, inspection,
testing, adjustment, lubrication and cleaning) is carried out at suitable
intervals". - Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations 1992, ACOP
L24 para 22(a)
Fire dampers within ducted ventilation systems are
occasionally found to be inoperable due to
several reasons:
- Accumulation of dirt/grease
- Incompetent/negligent installation

- Poor or non existent maintenance
- Poor design
Failure to operate could lead to a rapid spread of fire
and smoke, closure of business premises and even injury/loss of life.
Insurance claims may also be invalidated.
HML offer an annual inspection service in which all
dampers are inspected and tested at random, with findings and
recommendations recorded in an Annual Report.
