DUCTWORK CLEANING
Dirty ventilation
ductwork is a problem which has many hidden costs, both financial and
health related, in fact, the Workplace (Health Safety & Welfare)
Regulations 1992 recognises the health risks and impose a duty on
employers/building managers to ensure that the plant and ductwork is
cleaned (Regulation 6, and ACOP L24 para 33).
The problems dirty ductwork can cause
include:-

Dirt acts as a nutrient for microbiological activity,

Dirt may include other harmful hazards such as process waste or
MMF,

Discharged dirt can soil expensive equipment and décor,

Reduces ventilation efficiency,

Increase energy costs,

Can
be a fire hazard,

Can
cause staff absenteeism,

Impairs in-duct equipment e.g. fire dampers, probes, sensors.
Prior to the commencement of cleaning works,
HML
would meet with the client to discuss working times,
access facilities and any specific security requirements. Works would be
undertaken by experienced staff to TR/19, utilising modern cleaning
methods.
HML
use the best cleaning method to suit the individual circumstances.
Methods include powered brushes, air lances, extraction units, steam
cleaners, power washers etc., plus approved chemicals and biocides.
Existing access
into the ductwork in often inadequate.
HML
install quick release insulated toggle doors, or galvanised steel
panels, for cleaning and future monitoring purposes.
A “Post Clean”
report is produced covering contract details, works done, the equipment
used and giving a photographic record per and post cleaning. |
